The energy is NOT lost in the capacitors (assuming they
have no series resistance)! It is dissipated in the resistance
of the connecting leads and/or radiated. In the case of finite
resistance in the leads half of the original energy ends up as
heat loss in the resistance. Just write the equations and intgrate
the i^2 through the resistor. Doesn't depend on the RC at all.
If the resistance is zero then you have an infinite rate of
rise in the current, and an infinite current flowing for zero
time, IF there is no inductance in the leads. Of course there
is, and resistance too. No paradox here, no laws of nature
violated. Energy IS conserved.....
