These simulators can easily simulate rather idealistic Tesla coils. The problem
is to get accurate models of spark gaps (not difficult) and of what happens when
sparks form at the terminal (difficult). Even with a distributed capacitance as
the secondary capacitance, a Tesla coil is essentially a circuit composed of
discrete lumped elements, due to the low operating frequency for the size of the
elements. It is easy with any of these simulators to simulate what happens when
a charged capacitor is suddenly connected to the primary, and even to simulate
approximately the effect of sparks by connecting capacitor-resistor combinations
to the end of the secondary coil at proper times.
The simulations can give important insight on the operation of the devices, but
to obtain models that correspond precisely to actual physical devices is another
problem.
