As far as I a aware the only differences between a bombarder 
transformer and a neon sign transformer is a bombarder has a higher 
current capacity and is not inherently current limited. This is why 
you MUST ALWAYS use a bombarder with a current limiting choke! And
no you don't need any resistance in the circuit it will only increase 
your losses.
