Malcolm,
I unpotted a dud 15kV 30Ma neon recently and the thicness of the
secondary wire was thinner than the average hair! I couldn't see how you
could re-wind one without using much thicker wire and either making the
secondaries physically much wider, in which case you wouldn't have room
for the shunts, or having less turns which would give you lower voltage.
In any case, good trannies are not so common here in Aus so keep us
posted on how you go with your project.
