I took the advice of those that said to give the short secondary a try (ran
short of wire unexpectedly), but I wound a full sized one as well. Since
about half of the first one is unused, I got to thinking about trying
winding a primary on the lower half, and leaving it loose so it can be slid
up and down, as well as tapped. Is there some reason that this couldn't work
as well as a pancake primary, and result in a more compact unit to boot?
I've got nothing to lose, but thought I'd see what the experts think. Has
anyone tried this?
