Safety glass is tempered so that instead of breaking into large sharp
pieces that are likely to cut someone, it shatters into very small
pieces. Unfortunately, tempered glass cannot be cut-- it shatters.
Large temperature changes likewise will cause it to shatter. Last
winter, I tried to move a 3' X 6' sheet from the back porch (cold)
through the kitchen (hot) to the garage. Two steps into the room, I was
suddenly standing ankle deep in glass bits!
