While it is true that the recovery times for the stock microwave diode
is unacceptable for RF use, there is an alternative.

Hv components makes a similar diode that has a 75ns recovery which
will work.  If you intend to rectify the TC, you will need a bunch in
series 
soaking in oil for best results.
