Alnico is WAY too expensive and hard to handle. All of
the oven magnetrons I have seen use disk magnets, from 2-1/4 to
3-1/4 inches diameter, and around 3/8 inch thick. The newer
magnetrons use smaller magnets. Remember, the frequency is
relatively low (2450 MHz), and so is the voltage (these are
CW devices).
By the way, have cut one magnetron open and the
internal construction was beautiful, highly polished and
altogether a neat job. Guess the put the good workmanship
where it counts.
