Subject: Arc welder current limiting

If were to decide to buy a arc welder to limit current to a pole, or
potential transformer what type a current rating would you suggest? An
ac welder or a ac/dc welder? I'm thinking about moving into the "big
leauges" and I'm trying to get all of the equipment together!
