Slooshing will put small drops of Hg on the walls of the ignitron which
will cause erractic firing points at potentials below those of the tube
specs.  After repeated accidently firings the drops will vaporize and
condense down again but it's unnerving to have the tube firing while you
are trying to charge a HV cap.  It can also spike your charging system.

Pack the lower half of the tube in a bowl of ice cubes and hit the upper
portion with an infra-red heat lamp at a side angle.  This will recondense
all of the Hg into the lower portion of the tube and it will again work
properly without mis-firing while charging.  Be careful with the heat lamp
that you don't melt the rubberized upper coating on the tube.
