Hi I was reading through a couple of books about Tesla and his life and   
saw a picture of the inside of one of his labs in America and I see there   
is a very large coil much like a primary coil from a tesla coil hanging   
on the wall but the windings go completely to the centre and the whole   
coil is about 3 metres across.  Was just wondering what this was used   
for?  Is it a flat spiral secondary coil?
In another picture I saw this coil had a pole with a sphere on it set   
into the centre.
