I can get a used transformer for around 15 bucks.  This is about 250 VA but
very small.  Actually I have access to quite a few of them from a guy that
rebuilds antique signs and throws out the old NST's which are almost always
good.  He sells them to me instead of trashing them.   So e-mail me if you
want some small cheap ones and I will get some for you and test them out
also.
