Re: Wire gauge

The problem you are experiencing here is there are different types of enamel
coated magnet wire. Some 105 degree C, some 200 degree C, some single
enamel coated, some double enamel coated. The very best type to use for TC
work with small and medium size coils is Beldon Polythermalize -- a heavy
coated 200 degree C wire which offers superior insulation and excellent
abrasion resistance. If you buy surplus wire you need to "mike" it and then
divide that value into 1.000 for the correct turns per inch.
If you buy from a commercial supplier they will provide exact specifications
depending on their coatings. If you buy surplus you need to check it out
yourself before you wind your sec coil. Reference is Thomas Register
available at any local library for manufacturers telephone numbers.
For ref: 22 AWG .025 inch 39.4 tpi
24 AWG .020 inch 49.8 tpi
26 AWG .016 inch 62.7 tpi
