Re: performance problems + secondary burn

Hi
I can't really help you.. but mine has been doing the same thing. I
kinda expected it though... it was a product of boredom and curiousity :)
Specs (as I remember them, it's been dissassembled for storage) :
Conical secondary, 14" at the bottom, 13" at top. 27" winding length of
24 awg wire
I wound it on a thin polypropylene form
16 turn primary, 1/4" OD, 1/4" spacing with a slight 10 degree incline
(just cause I thought it looked cooler :)
Tapped around 13 or 14 I think
Simple single gap or 5-gap static, both blown by a shop vac
Toroid, 38"x6" with a smaller 21"x3" beneath it
.059 uF maxwell pulse cap
Same type power supply, I've tried with doublers and without
Current limited by a 220, 25a variac
I get almost nothing with the doublers in place. Some interesting things
happen with no doublers, just 2 unballested mot's. Each puts out 2400v
calculated and I measured 1.15 amps with a dmm (gotta be something
wrong), I did get them from commercial ovens though. It'll arc to about
15" away to a grounded rod, the streamer travels up the pole like a
jacobs ladder, and I can see the heat wave when it breaks and starts at
the bottom again :) it's pretty neat looking. I really freaked my
brother out when I turned it on for the first time and his hand-held
games in his room started turning themselves on upstairs :P I'd like
build a receiver type coil sometime and see what kind of power I can get
from it.
Sorry I can't help you, except to give you my experience. Seems like the
only thing we have in common is the dual MOT supply. Mine will probably
stay in storage until I can fiddle with it again.
