Hi Simon! 

This might work if the carbonizing is not too extensive- It is the "inside 
out" of a technique we used in some gas pipeline repair applications (a 
split-sleeve repair). Take a second piece of thinwall tubing of the same 
diameter as your secondary and at least twice the length of the boo-boo. Cut 
a lengthwise slot approximately 1/2" wide in this piece so it can be 
compressed to a diameter that will slide into your secondary.  Put silicone 
sealant on the outside of this tube and over the carbonized area, and slide 
it up into the secondary with the slot facing away from the burn spot so that 
the repair tube straddles the burn. You might also want to plug the ends of 
the repair piece after it is in place for added protection.
