It's physically possible and really doesn't take that long (unlike a high
turn solenoid). Your wire
size is 3 x larger than my flat coil and should be easy to count. The real
question is, will you have
the patience to recount if you loose track or placement <grin>. At some
point you will probably want to
coat the coil, so nows the time to count the turns and make measurements.
On a side note regarding coating: Robert recommended fiberglas resin. I
coated with a varnish. Although
it came out cosmetically nice, it was a pain in the -at-$$ and I can tell the
plexiglas on which is on the
underside of the coil caused the top layer of varnish to dry normally, but
internally I believe it is
still uncured (even after several weeks. Dave warned of this and he was
right). I think Robert has the
right idea of using the fiberglas resin (quick, fast, and durable). Should
I do another coil, I will
abandon varnishes and poly's for this type of coil (too much trouble).
