Yes: I have used point/cup carrona rectifiers with good sucess. They tend to
be quite noisy and you must deal with that problem. I use small tungsten
electrodes (1/16) sharpened and 1/2 toilet floats as anodes. If you blow
glass you can make better using florence chemical flasks and stainless steel
foil as a start.
