Paul and Richard,
I do recall reading that just this year someone has claimed the formation of a
magnetic monopole.
While monocharges are found anywhere where charges have separated,
I am unaware that there is such a thing as a monocharge free in space--
the elusive test charge. I guess that would be the equivalent of the
graviton. Tesla researchers might then have the "magic wand" with a monocharge
stuck to the end of it for mapping E-fields.
I guess much depends on how tightly charges are held in position
according to their place in the triboelectric series. Most texts talk
about rubbing different insulators to separate charges. This constitutes
work done to increase the potential energy between the charges, but isn't it
correct that separation of charge takes place simply by placing two substances
of different position in the triboelectric series so that they are merely
touching?
In that case, what work has been done and are there pulses (scintillations)
of electromagnetism?
Happy day,
