Another trick commercial Marx gen. mfgrs like Hipotronics use, is to connect
a HV cap from the second stage to ground --- this produces more consistent
firing of the first two stages which are important to the overall fast rise
time performance.

Typically a cap rated for twice the DC charging potential is connect across
the first two stages.
