Back in the days of vacuum tubes the military modularized equipment for 
quick trouble shooting and repair.

The case on this unit is water proof along with the plugs. A lot of these 
of different sizes and styles were used radio and radar. If you purchase 
this be careful. The cap could blow up on you or the frequency could be 
wrong for house hold.

Much military equipment is 500 cycles. this was done to minmize weight. 
Transformer are smaller for 500 cycles than 60 cycles. You also found the 
same designs of electronics for military aircraft.
