I've been following the strike distance threads and I had a good thought.
As far as Maximum Spark Distance goes. The Maximum is the maximum. The 
point at which you would be safe to stand at and not be hit. But this max 
does not accurately reflect the true nature of the coil in question. What I 
propose is a scale. Distance over time. A ground rod is placed vertical to 
the toroid. Touching the toroid is 0 distance and then the rod is moved 
away in say 6 inch steps until it is no longer stuck. At each step the 
number of hits is recorded over a time period. Lets say the time periods is 
long enough to allow for any arrant or fluke sparks. The distance at which 
the strike frequency falls off is the coils spark length. Any other sparks 
are anomalies and the distance at which No strikes occur is the Minimum 
Safe Distance.
So perhaps we should be asking what the M,S,D is not the M,S,D
