Hi Terry,
firstly thankyou for all your advice,
i have joined the Tesla list, but i dont know were to log in, i joined as
dgiwelb-at-yahoo-dot-com.
i wonder if you or someone you know can build me a tesla coil that will
emmit sparks of 3ft. i need this made in a week. please could you post this
message on the list if you are too busy.
also i was looking at the saftey list on www.pupman-dot-com and ino.8 says that
i should not operate the teals coil near water, i am planning on operating
it near water and the sparks will be in a plexi glass box with water vapor
and a tray of water at the bottom, so i am quite worried.
please advise
thanks agian
take care

Hi Dawn,
I am writing from work, but if you reply, please reply to
terry-at-hot-streamer-dot-com.
I don't think you want a Marx Generator for what you are doing:

htm
These machine discharge a few thousand joules into a single low repetiton
arc. That arc is louder than a high powered rifle and the explosive effects
may knock you tank apart. Although it is much like natuaral lightning, it
is also just as powerful if not more powerful than lightning. A 3 foot Marx
generator is a big terrible machine costing a lot of money. It would also
need to be run in a fairly safe high voltage lab type environment. I think
it would be far too monsteruous for what you are doing.
Tesla coils create a more managable 120 pulse per second disharge that is
much more like natural lightning.

The voltage is very high but they have less current. Easily capabable if
four foot arcs at the 1 kW power level.
There are also Jacobs ladders. These are simply the output of a high
voltage transformer that is made to arc and climb up two steel rails.

The Jacob's ladder is certainly fast needing only say four 15kV / 30mA Neon
sign transformers and you done. But the discharges are only about 2 to
three inches long which may be no good for what you need.
A Van-De-Graff (SP?) generator is far too low of power for what you need.
It has the voltage but only uAmps of current that a humid environment would
just short out.
I could pass you note here to the Tesla coil E-mail list that has about 850
memebers. Perhaps someone there could help you. I think you would be
better off with just one tesla coil in the center of your box arcing to the
four sides. Four Tesla coils would be pretty hard to find on short notice,
but one is much more posssible.
Here are some pro's that may be able to help too:

E-Bay may have pre built Tesla coils too.
Information unlimited also sells coils that are premade:
http://www.amazing1-dot-com/tesla.htm
There is a chance someone in your area may have one you could borrow too.
If you want me to pass your note on to the Tesla coil list let me know. You
could also subscribe if you want. It is free and all and you can
unsubscribe as you please. Everyone in the Tesla coiling community is there
;-)

Subject: Purchase
Hi Terry,
I came across your site recently, and i wonder if you can help.
I am looking to purchase a suitable assembled marx generator/tesla coil for
my Thesis. my website url is
a.parsons.edu/~dawng/thesis - will explain a bit further. The final work
needs to be completed in 3 weeks time.
The sparks need to be 3/4ft, housed inside a 4ft by 4ft or 3ft by 3ft square
plexi box and I need components to split the coil output into four parts or
two for the four inside corners or maybe i need more than one coil. If I can
order something now I can hopefully receive it by next week. I am in new
york city.
Please email me at dgiwelb-at-hotmail-dot-com asap if you can build and have the
suitable components for me to buy or you know of someone who can help,
obviously i am happy to pay for this.
thanks
dawn
