Eliminating all the problems, you will end with separate windings
connected to the power line, operating at low voltage, low current,
with high inductance, and a separate comutator in the same axle of the
rotor. Adequate shaping of the windings will keep the rotor synchronized
with the power line frequency.

A synchronous motor powering the rotor...
