Jim: a TC generates about 1 million volts. Your DVM will tolerate 0.250
volts and has a 20 mA fuse in the input. Your test leads are 2  five foot
long antenna leads looking for a voltage to test. You provided it.
    Check your input fuse.  Harbor Freight sells DVM on sail for 3$ +
