I know about making xformers, I'm in the process of making an arc welder
atm(now that I understand what size wires I need to use). As for industrial
control transformers I have no idea what you are talking about. However,
your idea of knocking out the middle leg of an E transformer has caught my
eye. Although it means you would not have as much core area, the window
would be huge. The central leg could be reused in a transformer also. As for
the straight laminations, they are great for cores to! I noticed when
dissassembling the transformer for making my arc welder I was lugging around
20 lbs of "I" laminations and figured if I left them out of the transformer
I would have a lighter welder and enough material for several 1x1 cores!
