The Powerstat guys were right! You can easily series the inputs together as
well as the output wipers to obtain 0 - 280 voltas -at- 50 amps output from a
240 volt input with (2) 1156D powerstats. Note that the 0 - 280 volt output
will have to be ungrounded to one side and floating between the 2 wipers,
but it will most certainly work.
