No adverse effect, but it's clear you haven't tried it.  If the duct
were a straight cylinder, it may make it smoother, but as a torus
curved, the foil will not lie straight, and it will be a mess.  Using
relatively narrow, individual strips of aluminum tape (HVAC aisle of
Home Depot) is the best bet, although I know of no way to make the
surface free of corrugation ridges.  Covering the duct with paper strips
soaked in water & Elmer's glue prior to aluminum tape is the best method
I've tried, but still not perfect.

Would using multiple layer's of tin foil warp around aluminum ducting in

order to get it ultra smooth have an averse effect on it?
