I use pretty much the same setup for my
voltage metering, I just tested it with different
values for R to get propper RMS reading and it
is not too accurate, but good enough for this purpose.
The only problem I had was when the rectifier failed,
probably due to HF peaks. But this was only once.
I am not sure if this is neccessary, but I use a small filter
cap after the recitfier.... maybe unneccessary.
I have not tried this idea for current metering,
but it looks as if it could work....
