"The bad pot was in my CA preamp, it is a little black plastic pot,
(650ohm)
that went on the end of one of the rotary switches, it has some broken
windings so it is really dead.

I'll have to take a look at it and think about rigging a replacement;
bet there's a way. Those are crummy pots and I've had a lot of trouble
with intermittent contacts which I helped somewhat by using a
combination of contact cleaner and lots of wiggling back and forth.
