Re: Build own capacators

Hi Matt.

In a way this is true, but when people new to coiling ask for advice
I would consider it a bad hint to let them build those caps.
Beginners usually largely underestimate the amount of work that
such a project willl consume, and if you really use virgin grade material
I doubt it will be much cheaper than an MMC. After all, with the "one big
cap"
approach, that most people use, you are trying to do better than the pro's,
which, too, use several small caps in series usually.

Of course it is perfectly legit if someone just wants to build his own cap,
but the experience can be made with smaller caps equally good.
I just don't see the point of wasting hours of labour, mess and bulk
to end up with some inferior product.
This is not to lessen the achievements of those who successfully run their
poly caps
for years or in the past, when nothing else was available, but you have to
admit
that this is not the regular case, most of these caps failed after not too
long.
And if you are on a budget a bottle cap is quicker and cheaper and you still
can
experience the wonder of oilmess in your livingroom ;-)

best regards

Christoph
