Rich,
Paul asked me to respond to this. As many of you are aware, Paul spent a
lot of years building engines and racing cars. He knows just a little bit
about motor oil and wants to pass this along. Although fresh motor oils
don't contain all of the contaminants that used oil picks up from engine
operation, they are NOT pristine, like mineral oil. Motor oils contain
numerous additives, such as the worst one, detergent. Most of them are even
labeled "high detergent." These detergents used in motor oils are
definitely an environmental hazard and no motor oil, whether new or used,
should ever be dumped into the environment and should be disposed of at a
facility designed for this purpose.
Paul by way of Debbie
