On most common panel meters there is no such thing as an "AC" meter,
they are "DC" meters and have a rectifier system built in to read "AC".
On changing those if you are trying to read say 5Vac on a tube filament
it is no problem to calibrate you dc milliamp meter to read 5V ac in the
center with a diode, cap and resistor. Reading a larger range, say 0v to
150v of ac is a bigger problem.
 There are several programs to make a new meter face, I scan the old one
and use Photoshop to change for the new readout.

Hi,

I'm wondering what is the best source for voltmeters and ammeters
(such as for a control panel)? They probably come up on e-bay on
occasion, but is there any sure source that coilers like to use or
find work well?

I have a DC ammeter as well as a DC voltmeter from an old piece of
equipment, but I suspect that it's probably not possible to convert
them to AC...is it?
