LV Spark Gap TC

With the advent of DRSSTCs, transformerless "low voltage" power supplies are
practical.

I am wondering if a similar transformerless low voltage high current DC
power supply would work using a triggered spark gap instead of IGBTs?  The
break rate would need to be quite high (e.g. 1000 BPS) to be able to pump
much power into an MMC running at a KV or less.  Resonant charging would
help as well.

Can someone report success in running a triggered or or other kind of spark
gap TC using 2KV or less?  Please only report on coils that require at least
several hundred VA (no "kicking coil" or "violet ray" coils please).

Technical speculations & opinions are welcomed as well.
