Re: LTR caps?

Robert,

Check out Bart Anderson's Java Tesla Coil designer program
as it includes the PFC factor in its calculations. However, I think
most pig coilers don't bother with PFC caps, as pole pigs already
have a good power factor in our application. I don't use any PFC
caps with my Green Monster coil although I have tried it out. http://dawntreader.net/hvgroup/david/gm.html
I didn't see any benefits and it seemed to cause a resonant voltage
rise of the pig's output voltage as well. Most NST coilers running
with SRSG and LTR primary cap do find the notable benefit of reduced amperage draw from the wall for the given power output since NSTs do have a rather poor power factor without PFC. I'm
sure others may have even better insight into this matter ;^)

Hi everybody,
How do I figure out the LTR cap value I need cause I will be building an LTR cap for a 14,400v 10kva power supply.
Have a nice day,
Robert A.
