Re: Noob Grounding
Original poster: Jared E Dwarshuis <jdwarshui@xxxxxxxxx>
There are two grounds (or should be). One ground for your power
supply, so the NST case doesent zap you. The other ground is for your
secondary.
You have one capacitor plate for your top end, and the other capacitor
plate is the earth itself.
Now this may seem confusing, because standing wave mathematics
predicts that the ground point should be a point of pure current with
no voltage. However Maxwell predicts that time varying electric fields
produce magnetic fields (read current). And that time varying magnetic
fields produce electric feilds (read voltage)
Present theory then suggests that the changing current (in the ground)
creates a voltage potential. This potential causes the earth to act as
the second capacitor plate.
We run a thousand watt coil in the same room as our computer with no
problem. The answering machine occasionaly gets confused, but is not
harmed. The television set gets a bit snowy, but regrettably is
unharmed.
You could simply un-plug nearby stuff if you are worried about it.
