Re: physics of wireless transmission?

Hi,
The physics of how electrical energy is transmitted wirelessly is not like
the propagation of radio waves it is the propagation of radio waves.
There are some fine details concerning near and far fields or if capactivly
coupled is electromagnetic propagation. I will not go into that as its
terrible complicated.
There are people that insist there is/are different method of transmitting
electrical power. Frequently the method is referred to as scalar waves or
simply not electromagnetic waves.
Main stream physics and most anyone with some technical back ground in
physics or electronics do not hold this view. You will how ever find many
internet sites that claim differently. A major group (major in fringe
science groups) believe that Nickole Tesla discovered a new way of
transmitting power using a large Tesla Coil and that modern science has some
how ignored his discovery. However this is very very unlikely to be true. It
may be that it was one of those sites that prompted your question.
Its easy to get confused about the fundemtals of electrical power
transmission because how electrical power that flows thru a physical thing
like a wire, capacitor or inductor appears to be fundamentally different
than power that flows thru the air. But that is not true. They are all
expects of the same thing. In fact because of the ways such things are
taught and described tends reinforce the difference. If a child asks their
high school teacher who is demonstrating a simple circuit using a battery
and bulb "how is power transmitted to my radio with out a wire connection".
The most probable reply will be oh that's very different. Its very unlikely
the teacher will explain about Maxwell's equations or Pontings vectors much
less that that will be helpful to the average child.
