What is a good gauage wire for a 4" / 20" coil powered by a 12kv 30mA xformer?
I wrapped it with about 1460 turns of #28g wire, but it is quite thin
and I couldn't get a 100% perfect shinny copper tube look...there are
some extremely small spaces between some of the wires.
My question is: What would be the best size wire to use if I were to
re-order another spool and wrap another pipe?
Thanks a lot,
John.
Hi John,
The tiny spaces are not a problem and it should work as long as
you don't have crossed turns (overlapping turns of wire). No one has
found an "ideal" wire size yet. There is an acceptable range of
sizes, and you are in it. To make a better coil, first you must make
a benchmark coil and then make changes to improve upon it. Give it a
couple of good coats of sealant and go with it. I have not met anyone
who was so completely satisfied with their first coil that they
didn't try making changes, starting even the next day.
