You can run a resonant coil as long as any other coil
so long as you are careful not to overvolt the thing.
Place the output of your NST across the spark
gap--just the NST and spark gap--no other circuitry
involved here. Adjust the gap to where the NST can
just barely jump the thing. In other words, find the
maximum gap opening that the NST can bridge.
Record this gap opening and never exceed it once you
have the tesla coil back in business. The spark gap
will serve as the voltage limiter.
