I got the transformer from a unit on it's way to scrap, it was run from a
120v single phase line, then a transformer 120/208 to get the 208 ?? Does
not make a lot of sense to me. Now I run it on a 240V variac.

Ahhh  yes  the infamous 208 3 phase...
Coherent and Trymedine love to use that due to the low ripple on DC 
usage ( requires alot smaller cap)
the 13KV unit must have been for a flashlamp laser :)
