RE: [TCML] TC Newbie

Gareth, you seem to hold some unconventional and unsupported beliefs. Comments and questions interspersed:

So switching from a single segment gap to two segments will increase the _frequency_ of a spark gap? I don't believe that I even know what the frequency of a spark gap means. Are you referring to the break rate? Changing the spacing of the gap would change the break rate, but one should not set the gap for the sake of increasing the break rate.

Changing just the gap geometry would NOT affect the primary tuning. And, the inductance or tuning does NOT affect the "way" the gap fires.

Top load performance is unaffected by choice of materials. And, odds are that most of us would not choose to render our toilets non-functional for the sake of improving our toploads!

Any piece of metal - a nail, scrap of wire, bit of aluminum tape, will perform identically for a breakout point, regardless of copper/brass/aluminum/steel material.

Altering the salt water mixture might only affect the equivalent series resistance ESR of the capacitor, affecting the losses. But I don't see how the ESR would affect how the spark gap fires. In what WAY does the gap fire "better"?
