Hi Jason,That's interesting. I think in the 942C case, the construction technique has four major benefits:
1) division across the dielectric 2) to aid uniformity of the electric field. 3) High voltage and high capacitance in a small package. 4) End terminal construction allows high peak currents at low loss.Also note, the 942C could have easily used a floating plate between two normally sized plates, but the choice to separate the foil on the same layer appears to be predominately voltage division.
