[TCML] Safety, Dr. Terran and electric shock CPR
Hi Peter,
There has been a significant push in the US to get as many people CPR certified as possible. Most public transportation and schools have these requirements. These defibs are in our shopping malls. Now whether or not one can act during a real emergency is another topic for another forum.
However, I really believe Coils or HV should be run with someone around that knows how to power down an obvious switch and knows CPR as well. I saved my cousin’s life while we were diving using the buddy system at 100’.
As we get used to diving we tend to say to ourselves, "what the heck" and dive alone. This sort of accustomed thinking with HV could result in a serious accident. I’m not talking about a Pig full on. I've seen pictures of what that can do… I’m talking about 240V or a partially charged big cap discharge that could flip the heart out of rhythm. Take a look at Philips site on home defibs...its pretty cool. It analyses the heart condition then talks you through the shock and afterward compressions. It uses two pads.
BTW, as these go obsolete, we will have a flow of new parts to experiment with ;-)
