Hi Simon,As far as noticeable losses, sure. But, build it for NST protection. That is it's purpose. Make sure you use only the number of MOV's for a 9kV NST. If you build it for 15kV, then the MOV's are not protecting the 8.5kV NST. Yes, you would have the RC filtering, but not the MOV back up.
