Re: [TCML] Abandoned Russian HV Test Facility
Hi Greg,
Some of the best photos were taken by a Russian coiler (Dmitry) who used
to be on the TCML. There were at least two similar sites - one of them
was still in operation (at least as of 2005) in Novosibirsk, Siberia,
The other is near St. Petersburg. Operated by Saint Petersburg State
Polytechnic), it appears to be in a state of disrepair. There may also
be another similar facility near Moscow.
The pictures Dmitry took of the Novosibirsk facility and the "longest
man made spark" from the SIBNIIE Marx generator are here:
http://www.capturedlightning.org/hot-streamer/temp/dest/SIBNIIE/
http://www.capturedlightning.com/frames/longarc.htm#Longspark
The SIBNIIE Marx generator uses 896 energy storage capacitors, each
rated at 175 nF @ 125 kV. Each Marx stage uses thirty two capacitors
connected in series-parallel and rated at 1400 nF at 250 kV. The fully
charged "erected capacitance" is 50 nF and, at peak power, the generator
can develop 1.225 Million joules per shot. During the "long spark"
discharge, the maximum voltage was approximately five million volts,
resulting in a point to point discharge of ~70 meters (230 feet). The
estimated actual spark channel distance was ~150 meters (~492 feet). The
pulse rise time was ~150 usec, duration was ~10 msec, and the overall
Marx bank energy was ~678 kilojoule's.
Some video tours of similar facilities can be seen here:

The last clip also has a shot of the 20 - 100 kV/m ALLUR EMP testing
facility...

Hi All,
Awhile back, someone had posted a link to detailed photos of an
abandoned russian test facility, showing detailed photos of the
components, capacitors, transformer nameplates, etc.
Does anyone still have the link for the detailed photos?
I've found the general site photos here:

Thanks,
Greg
