Interesting, I have often thought of doing something similar. What did you use for your wave guide, aluminum sheet? If you put a breakout point on the topload to direct it, you'd still have the problem of changing the capacitance, unless your guide was nonmetallic, in which case it'd just be more of a tube, wouldn't it?
Well, the Future Weapons episode mentioned earlier was kinda like that. I always wanted a directional EMP device...
