In the CGS system of units, charge is defined in electrostatic units
(ESU), and potential as ESU/cm, so the ratio of charge/potential (or
capacitance) has units of cm(!). Similarly when measuring inductance in
electromagnetic units (EMU), inductance also has units of cm. Because
Tesla usually uses centimeters to describe inductance and capacitance,
this can be quite confusing to those of us who are used to pF and uH.
However, we can convert between systems of units via the following
conversion:
In the SI system, capacitance is Coulombs/Volt, in units of Farads.
(ESU - statfarad) 1 cm <=> 1.11265 e-12 Farads ~ 1.113 pF
(EMU - abhenry) 1 cm <=> 1 e-9 Henry = 1 nH
ESU and EMU units have for the most part been phased out of common
usage, and most folks now use SI or MKS units.
