As others have suggested, you are probably seeing an artifact of the digital 
video camera. In the still shot marked "2" the ghost streamer is apparently 
floating in air and does not seem to have a starting point. Unless this 
phenomena can be seen with the naked eye, I am pretty confident this is what is 
happening here.

scroll down the list of movies to the last one, "night vision medicine coil" and 
you will see a line of white dots moving up and down above the  bright spot 
whenever the camera sees the spark gap. The owners manual for the camera states 
that if a vertical band appears when recording candlelight or electric light in 
the dark it is because the contrast between the subject and the background is 
too high. This is not a malfunction. It also says if a vertical band appears 
when recording a bright subject that this is called the "smear effect" and is 
not a malfunction.

I apologize for the very poor quality of this video, it is the first, last, and 
only time I played with my new video camera and I have a lot to learn about its 
operation. Also if anyone is on a Linux box and has the latest version of flash 
player installed, there may be a bug in the flash player that makes it not want 
to work right in response to left button clicks. If you can ever get into full 
screen mode, it works as expected. I will be looking into upgrading the player 
on the site.
