Re: [TCML] suggestions for nst cracks in potting
Awesome,
That is the next step in finishing off my 6" 15/120 coil
Have to put together the Terry Filter and spark gap Want to get everything
together before Halloween. Think I can run it full power on 3,000 watt
genset? Please anyone chime in here as I think It will save a lot of
headache's in the tuning process.
Can't wait to join the thro's of actively sparking coilers. My apologies to
the author of the parting expression Cheers but it is so appropriate......
Binny... P.S. ... 2 -15/60 NST's paralleled With line filters a powerstat
autotransformer feeding the beast. Line filters are probably insignificant
but I am thinking of reactance issues and think this set up will be okay but
have to look at all the angles and I may have RPM issues/frequency issues
with this particular genset Was wondering if the list guru's (hope not to
offend but my sense of humor often works overtime) might be able to predict
what to look for and how it would affect my tuning of the coil. Also does
anyone think it would be worth my while to do power factor corection?

Subject: [TCML] suggestions for nst cracks in potting
Have a couple of nsts12/60 and 15/60. Opened the top and there are fissiors
and cracks in tar. Probably due to the tar drying out over time and
shrinking. these cracks seem to be an easy path for arcing across windings
internaly. Read Barts and others experience about repotting, etc. Im
interested in getting the most life out of them as they don't grow on
trees!$! Heating them up in a rod oven seems like the simplest . Any more
suggestions would be appreciated.
PS
Have built nice t-filter for the 15k that will be used on new TC.
Thanks, Bob
