Re: [TCML] New Builder

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the list! If you're going for the typical stationary static gap
then you'll want to have a capacitance value somewhere close to 8.6 nf or
0.0086 uf for your 15/30 NST. You're a bit high on capacitance with the cap
your using. You want the voltage rating on the capacitor to be 2 - 2.5 times
the NST's output voltage. I use 36kV (2.4 times NST voltage) with my 15/30.

Seeing the $125 budget, you should be in the ballpark with a $40-$60 MMC
bank. Hunt down some CD (Cornell Dubilier) Caps (We really like the
942C20P15K model here.) and that should have you squared away as far as your
capacitor bank will go. If you need help building the MMC I can go into that
further in another message.

Oh, and if you're really looking for quality and durability (I mean NEVER
look back at your capacitor bank as a potential bottle-necking point), get
yourself some Maxwell Pulse Discharge Caps. Those things are crazy good in
high frequency applications such as these. I don't remember how much these
caps cost, but it shouldn't be too far past your $125. Again, these caps are
monsterous.

Good Luck,
Brandon
