Generally, one wants to stay below the OSHA or ACGIH limits (cut and pasted below).. A performer can claim they want to have higher concentrations and "take the risk", but the production company is then leaving itself open to problems later on. This is particularly a problem with ancillary personnel (crew and such, who are incidentally exposed, but may not gain the direct benefit of the exposure that the performer does).
The challenge (as with RF/EM exposure) is in measuring it. The usual scheme would be to pull samples with a Draeger sampler and tube or similar. Maybe during rehearsals or trials to get a baseline.
That gives you a nice paper trail later on to show that you met the need.
